Having been a part of the Manchester United Academy, Whitaker signed his first professional contract at Macclesfield Town in 2001. Having made over 200 appearances for the club over a five year spell, Danny made the move to Port Vale in 2006 where he went on to make just shy of 100 appearances.
In 2008 he joined Oldham Athletic then in 2010 joined Chesterfield where he played a pivotal role in their League Two triumph, earning himself a place in the PFA Team of the Year. In August 2013 he returned to Macclesfield, and remains a first team regular and fan favourite.
Now nearing 400 games for the Football Club Whitaker is in his tenth season at the Moss Rose across two spells.
