The signing of former Manchester City goalkeeper Billy O’Brien on Wednesday took manager John Askey’s summer transfer dealings to 15 incomings - all are set to be fit for the visit to the Racecourse ground this forthcoming Saturday (5th August).
Aside from numbers, Askey has deployed a variety of different tactics over the pre-season campaign and will look to utilise the ones, he feels, will give him the best chance of victory on the opening day.
Wrexham are set to hand an opening day debut to former Macclesfield striker, Chris Holroyd. The forward, who was a mainstay in the Silkmen’s squad over the past few seasons, made 179 appearances and scored three goals in two spells at the club.
Jack Macreth and Sam Wedgbury may also feature for Wrexham.
Last Time Out
The last time these two sides met at the Racecourse ground, it was an extremely memorable night for everybody associated with Macclesfield Town.
Goals from Danny Rowe, Mitch Hancox and Danny Whitaker in the December fixture gave The Silkmen a comfortable victory over the giants – which, at the time, moved Macclesfield up to seventh in the league table.
One To Watch – Scott Boden
The experienced forward joined Wrexham in the summer after a spell in Scotland with Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Boden is of course well known to Macclesfield fans following a succesful 2013/14 season with the Silkmen. He then moved on to Halifax, Newport and then Inverness before joining Wrexham earlier this summer.
