Danny Whitehead says Macclesfield Town will look to make Moss Rose a fortress as they aim to mount a promotion challenge this season.
Whitehead was speaking ahead of the game against Aldershot Town and admitted the fixture will be a tough test for his side.
The midfielder made his first start after rejoining the Silkmen during the victory at Torquay United on Saturday. He played the entire 90 minutes in a game that Scott Wilson’s second-half strike proved decisive.
Now, though, the Silkmen will face a very different challenge. The Shots, following their 2-2 draw at Leyton Orient on Saturday, have only lost one of their last four games and are currently sitting second in the table.
Despite Aldershot’s high league position, the table remains extremely tight. 11 teams are currently separated by just five points and Whitehead knows that a victory can make all the difference.
“We know it’s going to be a tough game,” Whitehead told mtfc.co.uk. “But the will be really up for the challenge.
“Aldershot have, so far, looked strong once again. They reached the playoffs last year and it looks like they could be up there again. We’ve just got to make sure that we stand up to the test that it will give us.
“Although we feel like we have dropped points when we could have won a few more games, the league is tight at the moment.
“We want to make our home ground a fortress and give ourselves the best possible chance of achieving promotion at the end of the season.”
