John Askey is encouraging everybody associated with Macclesfield Town to come out and support his team over the second half of the season, as they look to continue their promotion push into the new year.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game against Wrexham, which will be shown live on BT Sport, Askey said he was expecting his high-flying side to keep up the momentum they’ve generated in recent weeks.
Given the level of sides, they’re competing against, the manager has been left extremely pleased with the way they have stood up to the challenge facing them.
However, with second-placed Wrexham expecting a big following to Moss Rose, he says It is important that everyone shows as much support as possible on Saturday, and hopes it will continue in the new year.
“It’s important that everyone gives as much as they can,” he said.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Wrexham brought at least a thousand, so it’s vital that everybody turns out, who can, and comes to Moss Rose to get behind the players.
“For us, with the players doing what they’re doing, they need to be supported. I’m hoping they’ll (the supporters) push us through this weekend and into the new year. After all, If we can’t enjoy it now, then we’ll never be able to.”
A game on TV can mean added pressure, but Askey believes the coverage is a long time coming.
“I think we’ve forced them into it with the way we’ve been playing - it's certainly deserved.
“Hopefully, we can put on a good show and I’m sure they’ll be a lot of people, both there, and tuning in to watch at home.
“It’s a big game, but one that we’re all looking forward to.”
