After a hard fought 1-1 draw against promotion chasing Hartlepool, courtesy of a Danny Whitaker first half header, assistant manager Steve Watson spoke to SilkmenTV with his thoughts on the game.
He said: “It was a tough game, we knew it would be. We had them watched against Dover and that was a very tough physical game and it proved to be the same again tonight.
“I thought in many ways we played some better football tonight than we did on Saturday, we just couldn’t get that second goal which would’ve settled us down a little bit and allowed us to keep the ball a bit better, but I’m not unhappy with how we played.
“We created a lot of chances, a very good chance first half where Ryan Lloyd just missed the target with his header, we had a lot of good balls come across the box from Elliott (Durrell) and we were just missing that little final touch and then obviously it’s a sucker punch with the goal that we’re disappointed with because we didn’t feel it was a foul.
“We had good spells in the game where we created chances, but in a game like that the second goal really does make a big difference and we couldn’t quite get that tonight. But all in all, against a very strong, well organised outfit we’re not totally unhappy. We would have loved the win but there’s a lot of positives.”
