Tyrone Marsh clinched all three points for the Silkmen against Dover Athletic with a far post header early in the second half.
Assistant manager Steve Watson spoke to SilkmenTV after the game, to give his opinion on our performance.
He said: “Dover are a good side, they have had a good start to the season and they are a tough side to beat – they play a lot like Sutton and Gateshead. We had to earn the right to be in the game and match them physically as best we could despite the height difference.”
“The first half was a little bit scrappy but I still think we carved out the best chances. Dover huffed and puffed in the second half and put a lot of balls in the box as we knew they would, but we stayed resolute and kept a good clean sheet. We certainly will play a lot better than that, but it was a very important win.”
Steve also mentioned the impact of Elliott Durrell on his return from injury, with his cross the assist for Tyrone Marsh’s crucial goal.
“He’s a really good footballer. In the first half, we felt he was playing a little bit narrow and going looking for the ball and in the second half he gave us that width and balance. That’s the position we want him in - taking a touch and crossing the ball, there’s not many better than him in the league at doing that.”
