A Scott Wilson goal early in the second half was the difference in a tightly fought game at Plainmoor.
The striker latched on to a mistake in the Torquay defence to grab the only goal of the game and seal an impressive win on the road in Devon.
Boss John Askey made three changes to the side for the game with Danny Whitehead, George Pilkington and Jared Hodgkiss all coming in to the team.
The first half was a tightly contested with both sides fighting to get into the game early on. Jennison Myrie-Williams had the best of the early efforts with a shot that went well over in the first five minutes.
Soon after Shwan Jalal avoided giving away a free kick for an alleged foul on Rhys Murphy, something which the home fans were aggrieved about.
Murphy had another effort later on for the hosts and not long after, Danny Whitehead had the first chance of the match for the Silkmen, forcing Dorel into a good save with his feet.
Ryan Lloyd had another effort just before half-time forcing Dorel into tipping the ball over.
Jalal was forced into action just after the restart to make a quick save on the line from Murphy's header.
But Wilson broke the deadlock just three minutes later after an error by Anderson allowed him to round Dorel and grab his fifth goal of the season. Torquay captain Gowling then missed a good chance to equalise, putting his header just wide of the post.
After this, the home side pushed to get an equaliser, but throughout, Jalal was the hero, making key saves and blocks to keep the Silkmen in the game.
Elliot Durrell had a chance to make it 2-0 with a shot from range, but Dorel was just able to tip it over the bar.
Lloyd had another chance to make it 2-0 when he found himself unmarked with about five minutes to go.
Despite the pressure from the home side, John Askey's men held on to record their 6th win of the season and placing them outside of the play off places on goal difference
