Devonshire calls for strength at the back
Alan Devonshire has called for his team - newly promoted Maidenhead United - to strengthen up in defence as the National League fixtures come thick and fast. His side have lost one and drawn one of their opening games, and face Hartlepool at home on Saturday.
“It’s a hard, hard league,” Devonshire told BBC Radio Berkshire. “But let’s wait and see where we are after 46 games.
“We’ve done okay so far, but I want us to defend better at set pieces as we’ve been poor so far.”
The Spitfires re-sign Bournemouth midfielder on loan
Sam Matthews has re-joined Eastleigh for a second spell on loan from Premier League side AFC Bournemouth. In his previous loan spell he managed a respectable three goals in nine appearances, and has also spent time on loan at National League South outfit Braintree Town.
The 20-year-old will remain at Eastleigh until January, and will hope to build on a solid start to the season for the Spitfires which has seen them win one, and draw one of their opening National League fixtures.
Chester sign Burnley goalkeeper on loan

The Northern Ireland U21 ‘keeper has had spells at Bradford Park Avenue, and Sheffield FC in the past and has already impressed appearing between the sticks against AFC Fylde in a 1-1 draw just hours after signing for the club.
