Eastleigh look to fix pitch problems ahead of Tranmere Rovers fixture
Eastleigh continue to have problems with their pitch after weather conditions including heavier than expected rainfall in August have led to pre-season game cancellations, and a delayed kick off in their game against Dagenham & Redbridge.
Chief Executive Mark Jewell said: “It’s been the extremes of weather really that have hampered us.”
“After a fair bit of rain in the past week, there’s one spot of the newly-laid surface that isn’t draining as well as everywhere else. The ground staff have been working on spiking it and trying to get as much air into the roots as possible to encourage growth.”
Howe joins Eastleigh from Lincoln
Defender Callum Howe has joined Eastleigh on loan from League Two’s Lincoln City until January. The 23-year-old made his first start for the club in their 2-1 defeat to Woking on Tuesday night.
He made seven appearances for the Imps last season as they earned themselves promotion into the Football League, as well as appearing 18 times on loan at Southport. Beginning his career at Scunthorpe United, he has also had loan spells at Gateshead and Alfreton Town.
Dave Tarpey carries goal streak into the new season
Maidenhead United’s Dave Tarpey was proving the doubters wrong once again on Tuesday night, with a superb display scoring all four goals in their 4-1 victory over Fylde. Tarpey scored 45 goals to set a National League South record last season as Maidenhead won the title.
"A few people were saying 'could he make the step up?' but I think I'm showing I can," he told BBC Sport.
His four goals on Tuesday follow two in the previous game against Hartlepool United – Maidenhead’s first ever victory in the non-league’s top flight.
