Defender Josh Thompson has admitted that the opportunity to join Macclesfield Town was an attractive one after it was announced that he would be joining the club on Friday.
Wilson joined the club on Friday after departing Merseyside-based Southport at the end of the 2016/17 season.
Having played against Macclesfield at youth level, Thompson admits that It made the decision to join the club an easy one.
“I’ve always known about Macclesfield,” he admitted, “I used to play against them, a lot when I was in Stockport’s youth team.
“It’s a place that I’ve always enjoyed coming to play. Admittedly, it’ll be a bit strange playing on this side of it, but it’s something that I’m really looking forward to.
Thompson also went on to say that although his time at Southport ended in the disappointment of relegation, his experience at the club made him want to continue playing at this level.
“I had a great couple of years there (Southport), but there were various reasons why we weren’t very successful in the end.
“I just want to play and I was keen to stay at this level. I’m just looking forward to the season ahead now and being given the opportunity to show what I can do.”
