This pre-season the Silkmen will test themselves with higher level opposition against Derby, Bury, Crewe and Blackpool as well as a trip to Stockport County, with plenty of players looking to prove themselves.
Steve Watson and the rest of the coaching team are excited for the challenge. Speaking to the Silkmen’s YouTube channel he said “We have got some good quality games again this year and I’ve spoken to Bury’s manager Lee Clark the other day and they are excited about playing us.
"Everybody’s just buzzing to get back and started again. Whatever has gone on this summer all we can do as a club is look forward. I’m looking forward to it for one.”
Alluding to the high turnaround of players Steve was quick to highlight his positive mindset going into the pre-season games.
He said: “Originally when the lads decided to move elsewhere you’re slightly disappointed because you don’t want to lose good people, but ultimately it’s given us a chance to start a fresh.
“Personally, I’m positive now, really positive and there’s still a lot of work to do, there’s still a lot of good players out there it’s just a case of – as John (Askey) has alluded to before – being patient, not just bringing players in for the sake of it. We’ll have a good number of players to look at in the summer and I’m excited.”
Our first pre-season fixture takes place at the Moss Rose stadium against Derby County on July 15th, with kick off at 3pm.
