Steve Watson says he is delighted with Macclesfield’s 2-0 win over Chester on Monday.

The Silkmen approached the Cheshire derby knowing a win could take them into the play-offs following their victory over Dover on Friday evening.

Now with 11 points on the board from seven games, Macclesfield sit only four points from top and only goal difference is keeping them from the coveted play-off spots early in the season.

Following the game, Watson said: “We’re delighted. It was a very hard game but I thought we dominated. We scored two very good goals.

“We’ve had a tough couple of away days but we’ve responded right. We challenged the boys to try and get onto a run of form now. We’ve got games coming up we should be getting points out of and we’ve got two wins back-to-back, so everybody’s happy.

“We’ve still got things to work on. The final ball – and even the final finish at times – could’ve been better, but as I say, everybody’s delighted with the win and we move onto the next game with full confidence.
