Manager John Askey was quick to move for forward Scott Wilson in the transfer window, as the striker became one of the club’s first signings of the summer.
Wilson spent last season with Eastleigh before joining the Silkmen on a one-year-deal. Before Eastleigh the pacy striker had spent time at Weston-Super-Mare where he scored 24 goals in 42 appearances.
Now the striker will be looking to nail down a place in Macclesfield’s starting eleven and with a tough game against Derby County to kick-off the busy pre-season schedule there’s no better place to start.
We spoke to Scott to see how he and the team were preparing for the pre-season curtain raiser.
Speaking to mtfc.co.uk Scott said: “I can’t wait, it’s been a good two weeks. We just need a game now to see what our levels of fitness are like. It looks like we’re fit in training but you never know until we get into a match so were going to have a good test tomorrow.
“Obviously coming up against Championship opposition it’s going to be tough but we back ourselves against all types of teams and hopefully tomorrow we can prove it.”
He added “The result is not important but obviously we don’t want to lose every pre-season game. Coming into the season you want to win as much as you can and get that winning mentality for the season. If we can start that tomorrow and carry it on through pre-season it’ll be ideal.”
With a number of new faces joining Macclesfield this summer John Askey’s rebuild is well under way. There are still a few spaces that need to be filled ahead of the season opener against Wrexham but Scott Wilson says that the he and the new faces at Moss Rose have settled in well.
“I enjoy it up here, everybody’s welcomed me. I know there’s a lot of new lads but we’ve intergrated as a group quite well and hopefully you’ll see that in the game tomorrow.
He added “The gaffer said that we need a bit of a freshen up and we’ve had that and I like the look of it so far. Obviously, we need a few more faces but from what I can see on the training pitch things are looking good.”
