Tuesday evening’s 1-0 victory against League One opposition Bury, was the first of our pre-season campaign, and showed plenty of signs of talent in the Silkmen Squad. One of those that impressed was Scott Burgess – who is on loan from Gigg Lane.
We spoke to him after the game to discuss what it was like playing against his old teammates.
He said: “It’s strange, obviously I know a lot of the players there, and I’m close with quite a few of them so it was strange playing against them. But it was a good test and I enjoyed it, we got the win so it’s good for us.
“I’m getting fitter every day; pre-season is all about the minutes and that’s another 45 under my belt. The fitness is coming, it’s all about getting sharper now and getting ready for the new season.”
The pre-season games continue to come thick and fast, with our next game on Saturday away to Stockport County. It will be a different type of challenge, and Burgess is looking forward to taking to the pitch again.
“It’s another tough game, but it should be a good workout again and we’ll sharpen up some of the things we’ve done tonight. We’ll have a good couple of days in training and then go again on Saturday and do some more good things and see what the game brings.
“With each game that comes the team gels more, each player knows each other better, and we get a good understanding of how each other plays. It’s just about being ready for the season now.”
