Macclesfield Town’s 5-0 victory over Stourbridge could be described as the perfect performance.
The performance included a clean-sheet, five goals scored by five different players, a place in the First Round of the FA Cup secured and Scott Burgess’ first goal in a Silkmen shirt.
Since arriving on loan from Bury, Scott has played a big role in John Askey’s side this season and he admitted to mtfc.co.uk after the Stourbridge victory, that his first goal for the club was a big personal achievement.
“It’s nice to finally get on the scoresheet I’ve been wanting to do that since I’ve arrived. That’s what I try and do to help the team out.
“The ball just came to me and it was set up nicely and I thought ‘why not?’ and fortunately it’s gone straight into the top corner.”
The FA Cup is one of football’s beloved competitions and Scott also spoke about the importance of being in the next round.
“The FA Cup is a big tournament here in England, so it’s good to be in the next round and that was the main thing we needed to do today, getting the result, and getting through to the next round.
“We’re on a good run at the moment and we just have to keep on doing what we’re doing.
“We’ve been playing well and scoring more goals, so if we keep the confidence and keep going as we are doing I think we’ll have a good chance this season.”
With a great number of Silkmen fans making the journey to Stourbridge, Scott also praised the travelling faithful for the fantastic support the team have received this season.
“They’ve been massive, every single game we can hear them throughout the ninety minutes and they really helped us out when we had our backs against the wall.
“They’ve been brilliant all through the season and whoever we play as long as they support us and we play how we know we can play, we have a good chance.”
