Courtney Richards says he is excited about making his Macclesfield debut in Saturday's league opener with Wrexham.
Speaking to Silkmen TV, Richards says the squad is ready for the game after a tough pre-season campaign.
He said: “I think everyone is focused, we are just trying to take on all the information ahead of the game on Saturday.
“We had a good pre-season overall, the hiccups that we came across were good ones at the time – I think it will put us in good stead for the future. As the gaffer said no one really remembers pre-season, all the good performances we had, it’s about translating that on Saturday, then we can start to look forward.”
After a remarkably busy summer at the Moss Rose with plenty of new faces, the squad has come together at the perfect time ahead of the opening game. Richards was keen to highlight the competitiveness in the squad ahead of Saturday’s fixture:
“I think we’ve gelled quite well, there’s a lot of combinations that could be played, and I think that’s one of the beauties of our squad at the moment. The competition for places is quite high, so definitely a lot of people can play in different positions and can do a really good job for the team, so it’s a good depth to have.
“The standard of training is high, no one is holding back, and I think that’s something the gaffer thrives off because people are willing to go the extra mile to make sure their name is on the team sheet for Saturday.”
All eyes will now be on the Racecourse Ground on Saturday as the season commences.
