The Silkmen have been unlucky on the injury front this season, but finally the absentees have started to return to the first team picture.
One of those players was George Pilkington. After returning from his injury, he made it into the starting line-up in the win against Torquay, helping Macc keep a clean sheet in the process.
He spoke to mtfc.co.uk about his return to the starting eleven: “It’s great to be back! I’m just in need of some match fitness now and some more games. I’ve trained for the last couple of weeks and everything feels good so far, so that’s pleasing for me.
“The defence has done well in previous weeks, so it’s a bit unfortunate for some players to miss out but it’s given me my chance so it’s up to me to take it now.
“We have good strength in the squad and I think the back four have been excellent. Now Jared is back so there’s competition and strength in the squad.
“It’s a long season and everybody will get game time. I just need to get fitness and games under my belt and hopefully I can perform well on the pitch.”
George also spoke about the win against Torquay and how happy he is to take all three points on his return.
“I’m really pleased. It was a good three points on Saturday and it was never going to be easy with Torquay recently appointing a new manager and being away from home.
“Its been a team we’ve struggled against in the past and we’ve got the three points and a clean sheet so I’m more than happy.”
