Macclesfield got the National League season underway in the best possible fashion by beating Wrexham 1-0 away at the Racecourse ground.
John Askey’s side looked a lot different to the team last year with eight players making their debuts from the start and two from the substitutes bench.
However, arguably the stand out performer from the match (alongside a host of other names) was Noe Baba, whose 12th minute wonder strike proved to be the winner.
Baba, who turns 21 today, spoke to mtfc.co.uk after the victory about the team’s performance.
“I thought it was good for us to get a win out here, it was very important. The manager said to us come out here and try to grab a win”
“I think the experienced boys are really helping us, even when the manager made a couple of subs which helped us. I think we’re gelling really well as a team and the experienced boys are talking to us constantly which for me in the middle is really helping me a lot and I’m trying to learn as much as I can from all of them to really push forward for the rest of the season.”
“Tyrone (Marsh) did well on the right side of the pitch and I got the ball and it just happened to bounce up for me, so I thought why not have a go? I just saw it bounce in front of the keeper and then it was in the back of the net, it was one of them joyful moments to get a goal on my debut.” He said with a smile on his face.
Next up in the league is tonight’s fixture against recently relegated Hartlepool. Noe also spoke about the game and how the squad are looking forward to it.
“Well, I think after getting 90 minutes game time today, going into the game the boys will be fresh. The win today is just a base going into the game on Tuesday, because whenever you get a good result it gives you that platform to build on and I’m really looking forward to the game on Tuesday now.”
