National League January Transfer Round-Up

Despite the January transfer window not applying to the National League, it didn’t stop a number of clubs from adding to their playing staff during the month. We added three new players to our ranks, with Nathan Blissett, Callum Evans and Adam Dugdale joining from Plymouth Argyle, Forest Green, and Southport respectively. However, below is a round-up of some of the other transfer business surrounding some of the Silkmen’s closest challengers in the table.

Aldershot Town

Second-placed Aldershot have been especially busy during the month, and have added six new faces to aid their own promotion challenge.

Most notably, one of these additions is former Millwall striker Josh McQuoid, who has joined the club from Luton on a deal until the end of the season.

They have also re-signed Adam McDonnell, whilst further adding to their ranks with the additions of Lewis Kinsella, Nicke Kabamba, Fabien Robert and George Fowler.

They have, however, lost one with Bernard Mensah heading out to League One Bristol Rovers on a permanent deal.

Wrexham, who John Askey’s men have already completed the double over this season, have boosted their ranks three times.

After bringing in Blackpool striker Scott Quigley on loan until the end of the season at the beginning of the month, they further added to the ranks by completing the signings of former Inverness defender David Raven and Nicky Deverdics from Hartlepool United.

Akil Wright also made his loan spell to ‘The Dragon’s’ permanent. The midfielder had previously been borrowed to the club by League One Fleetwood Town.

Sutton United

London-based Sutton have had a quieter month than their closest challengers, and have added just two new faces to their ranks.

Goalkeeper Owen Evans joined the club from Wigan Athletic on loan, whilst former ‘U’s’ man Harry Beautyman rejoined the club from Stevenage for an undisclosed fee.

Tranmere Rovers

Our opponents later this month, Tranmere, have added former Silkmen stopper, Rhys Taylor, to add to their options between the sticks.

Taylor, who played for Macclesfield between 2013 and 2015, made more than 100 appearances during his time at Moss Rose. He has now joined Tranmere on loan from AFC Fylde until the end of the season as Micky Mellon looks to fill the void left by the injury to first choice, Scott Davies.

They have also persuaded Burnley winger Josh Ginnelly to join the club until the end of the season.
