As our busy transfer window continues, Mitch Hancox finds himself as one of the more experienced members of the squad and now he his hoping he can help the new squad continue to gel over the coming weeks.
He said: “It’s a good result. I think in pre-season it’s all about getting fitness so I think the lads worked very well today and I got 90 minutes under my belt, which on a personal note is good for me. But it’s always nice to win.
“It’s been good (pre-season), there’s obviously only a couple of us from last year so we’ve tried to incorporate the new lads really and to be fair the lads that have come in have been brilliant, all the staff have been brilliant with us and everything is gelling together, so hopefully we can kick on now until the start of the season.”
With an extra play-off spot up for grabs, and a much-changed squad from last season, Hancox discussed his aims for the season.
“On a personal note, I just want to get fit, because I still feel like I can get fitter and just get the lads all working together. I think we’ve got to aim high, there’s no point in this league trying to aim for mid table, I think we’ve got to go for play-offs as a minimum but it’s going to be a long season, and very hard work, but as long as the lads are on the same page we can work hard and go for it.”
Finally, he looked ahead to Saturday’s game away to Stockport County:
“From what I hear it’s a little bit of a local Derby so I am looking forward to the game. We’ll go there and get out fitness in, but ultimately you want to win as well.”
