A stunning Scott Wilson strike helped Macclesfield Town beat League One side Bury 1-0, in a friendly at Moss Rose.
Wilsons powerful strike found the top corner ten minutes from time in a tightly fought affair. Shwan Jalal also had a superb game in his first game back in a Silkmen shirt making two stunning saves as Macc gained an impressive victory.
John Askey made four changes to his Macclesfield team from the previous game against Derby.
The first half was a tightly fought affair with both teams battling it out for possession in the first 20 minutes with few chances for either side.
However, Macclesfield were the first team to test the oppositions goalkeeper. Scott Burgess was playing against his parent club and he was a livewire in the entire first half testing Joe Murphy numerous times.
Bury finally sparked to life on the half hour mark. Neil Danns fired over with a thunderous shot from 25 yards out. Then Shwan Jalal produced an outstanding save, as he denied Tsun Dai whilst he was in a 1 on 1 position.
The closest we came to a goal was just before half time as Tom Heardman’s snap shot rebounded back off the post leaving the score 0-0 at half time.
Again, as was the case against Derby, John Askey made a number of changes at half time. Courtney Richards, Scott Wilson, Ryan Lloyd, Tyrone Marsh, Courtney Meppen-Walter, Ejiro Okosieme, Jimmy Phillips and a trialist all came on to gain some valuable minutes on the pitch.
Again, the second half got going slowly, Shwan Jalal pulled off another brilliant save to keep the score at 0-0, some neat Bury play created the chance for Chris Sang and when 1 on 1 was denied by a point-blank reflex save by the Macc keeper.
Both sides again spent most of the half battling for possession and Bury did take aim on the Macclesfield goal numerous times in the half but Jalal wasn’t being made to work most of the time.
However, it was Scott Wilson who brought the game to life on 79 minutes. A fantastic ball from the Mitch Hancox found its way to Wilson who used his speed and strength to hold of the Bury defence and bent a powerful shot into the top corner of the net, for his first Silkmen goal.
Five minutes from time, Macclesfield nearly went 2-0 up. Another ball forward found its way to Tyrone Marsh who burst through on goal only to see his chipped shot superbly saved by Bury keeper Joe Murphy.
Next up for Macclesfield is a trip to Stockport County on Saturday.
