Macclesfield Town secured a sixth straight win in all competitions to stay top of the Vanarama National League with a 1-0 win over Leyton Orient.
Scott Wilson retained Macclesfield Town’s top spot after heading home from an Elliott Durrell cross on the stroke of half time.
The Silkmen defence held on to record another clean sheet in difficult conditions in the capital to secure another win for John Askey's men.
Kick off was delayed at the Brisbane Road stadium until 3:20 following Storm Brian hitting London, as advertising boards were deemed dangerous for players and fans and needed to be removed by safety officials.
Macclesfield Town made four changes from the team that beat Stourbridge in the FA Cup 5-0, including Kieran Kennedy who slotted in at right back as Jared Hodgkiss missed out through injury. The visitors suffered an early blow as Shwan Jalal suffered a heavy blow after some brave goalkeeping, and had to leave the field in just the 18th minute. Sam Ramsbottom came on to make his Silkmen debut and was tested immediately as Orient had a succession of corners.
Storm Brian continued to have an impact on the game, with the rain pouring down and the Silkmen players struggling to keep their feet in slippery conditions, some choosing to change boots during the injury delay to Jalal.
In a tight first half Leyton Orient had the majority of possession, as their 3-5-2 formation caused problems for the Silkmen leaving in-form Scott Wilson isolated, and Durrell unable to make an impact down the right flank.
But eventually the quality of the league leaders attacking players shone through as Macclesfield came to life on the stroke of half time.Elliott Durrell beat his man and put in a pinpoint cross, leaving Wilson with the task of heading in from five yards out.
The O’s came out for the second half in a similar fashion to the first, having the majority of the possession and the Silkmen looked to counter with pace. In the 59th minute manager Steve Davis made a double change, with Brophy and Brentford loanee Westbrooke coming on, and a change in formation with the O’s moving to a back four.
Almost immediately Orient went close, with Bonne testing Ramsbottom who had a debut to remember for the Silkmen. The second half was a frantic affair with tired legs on both sides in tough weather conditions.
After coming on for Scott Wilson, Tyrone Marsh had a couple of chances to seal all three points for the visitors, but shot just wide of the post. Durrell picked up a yellow card after an altercation near the touchline, and nerves were frayed as the home side looked to get their equaliser.
With five added minutes played the Silkmen hung on to retain their top spot in the National League table with another victory to remember in what has been an excellent start to the 2017/18 season.
