Goals from captain Jared Hodgkiss and winger Elliott Durrell sealed a comfortable victory for the Silkmen against a struggling Barrow side.
With one of the best performances of the season, Macclesfield produced an assured display in Cumrbia to climb up to second in the National League table.
Macclesfield made a number of changes for the game with the likes of Noe Baba and Tyrone Marsh moving to the bench.
The returning Scott Wilson combined well with Elliott Durrell early on, as the Silkmen looked to find a way to get the ball down and play against a very tall, physical Barrow line-up.
Keith Lowe impressed against the physically-imposing, in-form Adi Yussuf as Barrow showed their long ball strategy early on in the match. Jared Hodgkiss had the first shot in anger in the 10th minute with an effort from 25 yards out, following some precise Silkmen passing.
Bedsente Gomis had a couple of speculative efforts from just outside the area, but Shwan Jalal’s goal never looked in real danger. The aforementioned Yussuf had the first clear cut chance of the half for Barrow in the 20th minute as he beat the offside trap but slotted his effort just inches past the post.
The crucial opener came in the 27th minute from an unlikely place in the form of Jared Hodgkiss who found himself in acres of space down the right, playing a one-two with Whitaker, and firing home for his first goal in a Silkmen shirt.
Macclesfield Town continued to impressed with quick neat passing, but had to be wary of the aerial bombardment on offer from Barrow. Barrow captain Asa Hall will have wanted to do better with an unmarked header from inside the Silkmen penalty area.
The second-half mirrored the first, with the Silkmen looking the better side with their passing, and Barrow beginning to give away free kicks out of frustration as the Silkmen defence held firm. The game took on an end-to-end nature as the Silkmen looked to ensure the victory, and Barrow looked to get back into the game.
A Fitzpatrick counter-attacking run and switch to Durrell almost led to a second for the Silkmen but Wilson was unable to get his shot away. It was Durrell that added the crucial second just past the hour mark curling a wonderful effort into the top corner from just outside the box.
Grant Holt entered the fray in the 70th minute, but even his vast experience could not breach a resolute Silkmen defence.
Macclesfield Town end the day in second place in the National League, while Barrow remain in the relegation zone.
