Match Preview: Maidstone vs Macclesfield

Macclesfield Town
Posted:Tue 06 Mar 2018

Macclesfield travel to Maidstone on Tuesday evening looking to earn revenge on one of the only clubs to beat the Silkmen so far this season.

Maidstone put up a fantastic performance earlier in the season to win 4-1 at the Moss, however spirits will be buoyed for the visitors with the knowledge that the hosts have lost both of their top scorers to transfers.

Team News:

John Askey will check on what is expected to be a virtually fully fit squad heading into our long trip down south to face Maidstone. Only Ryan Lloyd is likely to miss out for Macclesfield.

The Silkmen have endured an extra couple of days rest and training following the postponement of the Boreham Wood fixture, and will be looking to avenge one of the season’s heaviest defeats when they line up on Tuesday night.

Last Time Out: Macclesfield 1-4 Maidstone

Maidstone are one of few teams to claim victory over Macclesfield so far this season, with a thumping 4-1 win at the Moss looking to dent the Silkmen’s early confidence.

Former West Ham United youngster Zavon Hines bagged two for the visitors, with Alex Wynter and Joe Pigott making it 4-0 before a late Koby Arthur consolation goal.

One To Watch: Stuart Lewis

Having lost top scorers Joe Pigott and Zavon Hines – both of whom have already scored against Macclesfield earlier in the season – to Wimbledon and Chesterfield respectively, Lewis is currently the club’s joint top scorer in the National League from midfield.

The 30-year-old has a stellar footballing education, training with Norwich, Arsenal and Tottenham in his youth, before turning out for many English Football League clubs where he enjoyed dictating the play.

He certainly won’t be the only goal threat for the hosts, but his late runs from deep and passing play will be an important part of the home side’s attack.
