All eyes will be on Moss Rose for Saturday’s top of the table clash between Macclesfield Town and Sutton United, with the Silkmen going into the game three points clear at the top of the National League.
The Silkmen will go into the clash full of confidence after coming from behind to secure three points against Halifax on Boxing Day. Manager John Askey will be looking over his squad as they approach their third game of the festive season. George Pilkington is back in contention after recovering from a back injury.
Sutton will be in equally high spirits after their 4-0 drubbing of Boreham Wood on Boxing Day, ending Wood’s 12-match unbeaten run. Paul Doswell will be looking to field a similar side to that of Tuesday’s victory, but will also have the festive fixture pile-up to consider.
Last Time Out
The meeting between the two sides earlier on in the National League season, came in the opening weeks of the 2017/18 campaign, as Sutton United secured all three points with a 2-1 victory at Gander Green Lane.
Scott Wilson’s early strike in just the second minute was cancelled out by two late goals from the home side, first from Moses Emanuel and then from Tommy Wright just four minutes from time.
One To Watch: Tommy Wright
With seven goals to his name already this season Tommy Wright is joint top scorer for Sutton United, level with fellow goal threat Craig Dundas. Macclesfield Town are already more than aware of the quality he possesses after he scored the crucial winning goal in the previous meeting between the two sides. At just 21, Wright could be a name to look out for in the future, but in the mean time he will be a leading light in The U’s promotion push.
