Boxing Day football is always a fan favourite, and Tuesday will see Macclesfield take on Halifax Town at Moss Rose in a bid to remain leaders of the National League.
Macclesfield go into the game full of confidence as their draw away to Bromley on Saturday kept them at the top of the National League. John Askey will hope to have a full squad to draw from with two games in four days over this busy festive period.
Halifax will be in equally high spirits after their 4-0 thumping of Chester at the weekend. They will likely remain unchanged from that side, hoping to improve on their 14th placing in the table.
Last Time Out
Though Macclesfield have notoriously found it difficult to pick up victory over Halifax in years gone by, the 2015/16 season saw the Silkmen take a point as they came from behind away from home.
Scott McManus opened the scoring for Halifax moments before half-time, but the mood didn’t drop for Macclesfield and Danny Rowe equalised in the 60th minute, closing the scoring as he did.
One to Watch - Tom Denton
Halifax’s highest scorer so far this term with seven goals, the forward is an attacking threat Macclesfield Town will need to be aware of. At just 28, Denton has played for numerous clubs starting his career at Wakefield before joining Huddersfield Town, Mossley, Alfreton Town, and most recently North Ferriby United before joining the Shaymen in 2016. He scored a hat-trick on his debut on the opening day of the season in August 2016, in a 3-2 win over Nuneaton. His goals will be vital if Halifax are to retain their National League status this time around.
