Following a fantastic 2-0 victory over Aldershot Town on Saturday, the Silkmen travel to Nethermoor Park tonight as we face Guiseley. A win would stretch Macclesfield’s winning run to three games and could take the Silkmen to the top of the National League.
John Askey will have a selection headache ahead of tonight’s match with Guiseley as he has a fully fit team to pick from.
George Pilkington and Jared Hodgkiss both played in the 2-0 victory against Aldershot and both are once again fit for selection after recently returning from spells on the sidelines.
On another note Danny Whitaker will play his 400th game in a Macclesfield Town shirt if selected to play at Nethermoor Park.
Guiseley on the other hand will be wanting to put their previous 3-0 defeat to Maidenhead behind them tonight and could hand a full debut to new signing Simon Lenighan.
New manager Paul Cox will also have a fully fit squad to choose from as he looks to end a run of six matches without a win.
Last Time Out:
The last match between the two sides ended up with Guiseley taking all three points at Moss Rose as they won 1-2.
Michael Rankine opened the scoring in the 29th minute from the penalty spot. However, Chris Holroyd made sure Macc would go into the break on level terms as he equalised, just two minutes after.
Two minutes after the re-start, Rankine scored what proved to be the winner. Referee Scott Oldham awarded the Lions a second penalty and although Scott Flinders saved the strikers first attempt he couldn’t stop the rebound.
One to Watch: John Rooney
Younger brother of Wayne, John Rooney is Guiseley’s top scorer this season and a constant in the Lions team.
Rooney got his first chance in the professional game here at Moss Rose but since leaving he has gone on to play for the likes of New York Red Bulls, Orlando City, Bury, Chester and Wrexham.
Last season his 12 goals and six assists helped Guiseley beat the drop and his performances will be crucial if they are to survive again.
