Macclesfield Town continue their pre-season campaign this evening as League One side Bury arrive at the Moss Rose. Let’s take a look at our second pre-season outing.
John Askey fielded 22 players in Saturday’s opening friendly with Derby County and is expected to look at a number of players once again this evening.
Shwan Jalal could feature for Macclesfield after missing Saturday’s friendly with Derby as Askey opted to look at two trialists goalkeepers whilst George Pilkington could also be in the Silkmen side after missing out on Saturday. Scott Burgess should also be in the Macclesfield team against his parent club.
Bury were in action on Sunday against Premier League newcomers Huddersfield but are still expected to name a strong side this evening. New signing Jermaine Beckford should feature for the Shakers.
One To Watch – Jermaine Beckford
In Beckford Bury have a player with both Premier League and international experience. A successful spell with Leeds earned him a move to Everton in 2010, whilst he was called up to the Jamaican national side in 2013. Beckford has an eye for goal and has tallied up 160 goals in hiscareer. The frontman has also represented Leicester, Huddersfield, Bolton, and Preston. At Preston, he played a starring role at Wembley where he scored a hat-trick against Swindon in the 2015 play-off final winning Preston promotion. Two more seasons at Deepdale followed before his release last season.
Last Time Out
The two sides last met in July 2015 when a Leon Clarke goal earned Bury a 1-0 win at the Moss Rose in a pre-season game. Danny Rowe and Paul Turnbull both had good chances for Macc but it was the visitors who came out victorious.
