Team news

John Askey utilised his 19 available players during Macclesfield’s 3-0 victory over Crewe in their previous pre-season match, but with the season fast approaching the players will be vying for a place in the first competitive game of the season come the visit of Blackpool on Saturday afternoon.

Visitors Blackpool – who will be the final pre-season test for the Silkmen – are expected to have a full squad available.

Last time out

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in nine years, with the most recent match coming in 2008. Macclesfield hosted Blackpool for a League Cup tie, which the home side won 2-0. Goals that day came from Shaun Brisley and Martin Gritton, defeating much of the same Blackpool side which featured in the Premier League two years later.

One to watch – Brad Potts

Potts is the metronome in the middle of Blackpool’s midfield. The 23-year-old bagged 13 goals and nine assists over the course of last season, and has been capped by England under-19s.
