Match Preview: AFC Fylde V Macclesfield Town

Macclesfield Town
Posted:Fri 19 Jan 2018

After a week away from the football pitch, the Silkmen return to Vanarama National League action with a trip to AFC Fylde this Saturday.

The match could see three new signings take to the field for Macclesfield and with Fylde on a run of five games without defeat, Saturday will be an interesting matchup.

Here’s all you need to know ahead of the tie at Mills Farm.

Team News:

Macclesfield’s three new signings Nathan Blissett, Callum Evans and Adam Dugdale will all be available for selection at Fylde with all three looking to make their Macclesfield debut.

However, Jared Hodgkiss is likely to miss the clash, as he continues to return from injury. Shwan Jalal served the last game of his three-match suspension against Halifax and is up for selection again.

In the opposing dug-out, Fylde manager David Chalinor added Oldham Athletic midfielder Mason Fawns to his squad and he could make his debut on Saturday afternoon.

Last Time Out: Macclesfield 2 AFC Fylde 1

On a cold and wet night at Moss Rose, Macclesfield left it late to take all three points earlier this season.

Scott Wilson grabbed the opener when he finished off from an Elliott Durrell cross on 14 minutes. But in the second half the Coasters pegged the Silkmen back when Jack Muldoon’s shot found its way into the top corner.

However, Macc fought till the end and Wilson latched onto a ball in the 91st minute to score the winner, on a night in difficult conditions.

One to Watch: Danny Rowe

In Danny Rowe, AFC Fylde have the most clinical forwards in the National League. Currently sitting at the top of the Vanarama National League scoring charts (15) and Fylde’s all-time scoring charts, he certainly knows where the net is.

He was key in this season’s FA Cup run, which saw Fylde reach the FA Cup third round for the first time in their history, where he went on to score in both matches against League One side Wigan Athletic.

The club fended off a number of football league suitors in the summer transfer window, and the Macc defence will have to be at their best to keep him at bay.
