Following the end of a successful festive period for Macclesfield Town, which saw them move six points clear at the top of the National League, the Silkmen return to action this weekend. Solihull Moors, who will be looking for all three points to ease their relegation fears, are the visitors to Moss Rose. Here is everything you need to know about the game.
John Askey will be left with a selection headache after Monday’s 4-1 win over Halifax. He is, however, without goalkeeper Shwan Jalal who is still suspended following his red card against Sutton United on December 30th. Jared Hodgkiss will be pushing for a return to the squad after missing the win at Halifax.
Moors will now be without Wes Atkinson, Ashley Sammons and Jordan Liburd, who have all been released from their contracts this week. Elsewhere Jamey Osborne misses out through suspension.
Last Time Out:
September saw the first meeting between these two sides in the 2017/18 season and it was this weekend’s hosts, Macclesfield, that came away with all three points on that occasion.
The away side dominated early that afternoon, but they eventually had goalkeeper Shwan Jalal to thank. His penalty save from Moors skipper Darren Carter after 53 minutes kept The Silkmen level before Scott Wilson’s 62nd-minute strike proved to be the only goal of the game.
The victory was Macclesfield’s third win in five games, whilst Moors remained in the relegation zone on seven points.
One To Watch: Darren Carter
Although Dapo Afolayan has caught the eye this season, Solihull’s man to watch remains the experienced Carter, who has featured in all top five English divisions during his career.
Carter began his career at Premier League side Birmingham City, before moving to West Bromwich Albion in 2005. Following a mixed spell with ‘The Baggies’, Carter would eventually join Preston North End, Cheltenham, and Northampton before becoming a key member of Forest Green’s promotion-winning team last season.
He linked up with Moors at the beginning of the season and has scored seven goals in 28 appearances for his hometown club.
