After a frustrating start to the National League campaign, defender Josh Thompson is ready to kick on and get going with the Silkmen squad as he returns from injury.
Despite being unable to play due to injury, Josh has been at Moss Rose supporting the team from the side lines, whilst he completes his rehab programme ready for a return to first team action.
It’s still early in the season and John Askey’s new look squad are still gelling with every minute spent together and Josh Thompson has spoken to mtfc.co.uk to talk about how the squad is shaping up.
“I think so far it’s gone really well.” He said.
“I was impressed in pre-season with the way we played football and we got some good results.
“We started the season well, the game at the weekend wasn’t great but the squads just getting going. It’s early days and I’ve been impressed.
“I know there’s a lot of new players here this season, but I think if you came and watched even in the first couple of weeks you wouldn’t be able to tell who’s new and who’s not and that shows in some of the link up play and the way we play football.”
Thompson, who has played in an old firm derby for Celtic and won the clubs young player of the year award, also spoke about how motivated he is to get onto the pitch and start helping the team.
“It’s difficult when you come around and see the boys in pre-season getting ready for the games, having the meetings for the games and you’re not involved, all you want to do it contribute and do your part but I had a taster at the weekend and I’m rearing to go.”
