John On Sutton Test

Macclesfield Town

As Macclesfield Town prepare for their fourth game in 10 days, boss John Askey insists that his side are more than prepared for the challenge that Sutton United will provide on Tuesday night.

Askey was speaking to Silkmen TV shortly after Saturday’s home game against Bromley – a game that saw his side extend their unbeaten start to the 2017/18 season.

Having opened the season with an impressive away victory at Wrexham, Macclesfield were perhaps unlucky to draw their following two games.

Now, they come up against a Sutton side fresh in the minds of football fans across the country, after pushing Arsenal all the way in the FA Cup Fifth Round last season. The South London based club have now started this campaign with two victories from their opening three games.

Despite the strong start from his side’s next opponents, Askey insists that his side can more than match the challenge facing them.

He said: "Sutton are a good side, obviously, they’ve spent heavily in the summer so it will be a tough place to go.

“It will be a different kind of game than the first three have been for various reasons, but I think we’ve got more than enough quality to match them.

“Hopefully we can go down there and come out with a positive result.”
