Manager John Askey admits that he has been extremely satisfied with the progress the club has made in the transfer market in this pre-season campaign, despite seeing his new look team suffer defeat against Stockport County on Saturday.
Amongst the squad on show at Edgeley Park were new signings Kieran Kennedy and Noe Baba, whose transfers to the club were confirmed on Friday.
Speaking exclusively to Silkmen TV after the game, Askey refused to worry about the performance in the second half and believes the recruitment decisions made by the club have made his team stronger.
“I’ve never remembered a pre-season game. Never as a player or never as a manager,” he said.
“I’m not concerned. The only thing that is going to concern me is how we do against Wrexham on the opening day, that’s what really matters.
“The two new lads are both good prospects – Noe (Baba), in particular, has come from Birmingham and is one that I expect to be back in league football. Kieran (Kennedy) has great pedigree, he’s one that I think will only get better.
“I’m pleased with the players we have signed up to now. Hopefully, we can sign that extra one or two more to make us that little bit stronger”
