Pre-season is now in full flow for Macclesfield Town and the players are now stepping up preperations for the new season.
This time around, pre-season will see the Silkmen face a difficult run of fixtures at the Moss Rose against the likes of; Derby, Bury, Crewe and Blackpool all paying us a visit in what promises to be a good test for John Askey’s new look Silkmen side.
With trialists looking to impress and new signings looking to nail down a first team place we spoke to John Askey about how pre-season is going so far.
Speaking to mtfc.co.uk he said: "So far training has gone really well, we’ve not picked up any injuries which is the important thing and everybody’s come back and they look nice and sharp.”
He added: "It’s about making the players realise they need to be fit for the start of the season, it’s not about right now. It’s about staying injury free and trying to complete every training session.”
With some spaces still needing to be filled in the Silkmen squad trialists will be wanting to win over John Askey in pre-season and the upcoming run of games, but this is something he thinks makes things a little more difficult
“It makes it difficult in pre-season because instead of being able to organise your team and do things right you're looking more at who's coming in and who you could potentially sign. But like I said before we won't sign players if I don't think they're good enough.”
