Macclesfield manager John Askey says the players will be looking forward to a big match with Hartlepool this weekend.

Pool were relegated from League Two last season, and Askey says the it’s the kind of atmosphere that puts you in the right frame of mind.

“They’ve improved since the start of the season,” said John on Hartlepool’s form. “They’ve got some good players, and I know they lost to Ebbsfleet but I’ve watched the game and they created a lot of chances. They gave soft goals away and if they’d buried their chances they could’ve won.

“Prior to that they beat Halifax 4-0, so they’re a team that will give us a proper game. They’re a big club in this league and they should have a decent following, so all the players will be up for it and should be looking forward to the challenge.

“The players will love it, going to ex-league clubs with the facilities that they’ve got. It puts you in the right frame of mind straight away, so it’ll be tough, but our away form is excellent so we want to keep that going.
