John Askey says he is on the lookout for quality, rather than quantity, as he continues to hunt potential new additions to his high-flying squad.
Speaking ahead of the game against Boreham Wood on Saturday, Askey admitted he is still on the lookout for reinforcements after seeing loanee Shamir Mullings depart Moss Rose. Mullings, initially borrowed from Forest Green last week, was forced to return to the New Lawn Stadium earlier this week.
The Silkmen, who host Boreham Wood this weekend, currently sit second in the National League table and the manager is looking for ways to boost his well-placed side.
He said: “We have a very strong squad, but it’s also very small in terms of numbers.
“It only takes one or two injuries and it can be the difference between getting promoted and not. It’s important for the whole football club that we’re covered in case of injury or any other absences. We don’t want to leave ourselves short.
“They have to be quality though. They need to make a difference and push the ones that are already here. The players have shown that they’re more than good enough for this level and, potentially, the league above too.
“We’re doing well at the minute, so you hope that makes us attractive to potential signings. We need people to compliment what we’re already doing.”
