With Macclesfield recording their second win over higher league opposition in pre-season, it seems like preparations for the new season are coming along nicely.
Goals from Danny Whitaker, a Trialist and Ryan Lloyd secured the win over Cheshire rivals Crewe Alexandra at Moss Rose as players started to get more minutes on the pitch.
John Askey took some time out to speak to mtfc.co.uk after the game and was delighted with the outcome of the match. He said: “It was a really pleasing performance, after Saturday everyone was disappointed but it was a good workout and the team got a lot of confidence from it and I think everybody who came to watch saw an entertaining game and there could’ve been more goals.
“In pre-season, you don’t get too carried away when you win and you don’t get too carried away when you lose. Obviously on Saturday we conceded goals but I knew the reasons for it and tonight there was a lot of good performances. One or two players are just getting to full match fitness, such as Kieran (Kennedy) who hasn’t played for most of last year or so. It’s looking a lot better and tonight was a good workout.”
He added; “I thought the whole team played really well, towards the end it was as good of stuff as you could see.”
John also spoke about his rotation of the team and the performance of the trialists in the game.
“David Fitzpatrick and Keith Lowe, we were able to rest. They’ve had quite a few games but everybody played tonight and all got compliments from it and that’s the main thing.
“There’s two trialists who did really well and that’s pleasing and hopefully we can do something because I think they showed what they could do tonight.”
