Pre-season is up and running at Moss Rose and with our first game with Derby County quickly approaching, John Askey is preparing his players for a tough test.

The match against Derby will offer Macclesfield supporters the chance to see a new look Silkmen side and John Askey is hoping for a good crowd at Moss Rose.

Macclesfield also face Bury, Stockport, Crewe, and Blackpool in the run-up to the season opener away at Wrexham and John Askey has been speaking to us about the pre-season fixtures.

Speaking to mtfc.co.uk John Askey said: “We’ve got some good pre-season games with big clubs. Hopefully, that’ll attract supporters to come down to Moss Rose, especially with Derby and Blackpool, they’re good games for us and we’ll see how the players do.”

The fixture list has matched the Silkmen up against Wrexham in the first game of the season at the Racecourse ground. A tough game which will see Macc line up against a familiar face in Chris Holroyd, but John Askey is concentrating on his own team’s preparation in the lead up to the season opener.

“It can be difficult, it just depends how you start yourself. It doesn’t matter who you play at the start of the season, everybody’s up for it and everybody wants to win their first game, so it’s difficult no matter who you play but hopefully we can get off to a good start.

He added “We’re playing National League teams. We’re not playing Championship teams or Premier League teams, if you’re fit and you’re strong then you’ve got a chance.”
