Once again Macclesfield have been drawn away to Football League opposition in the FA Cup, but this time it’s against a more familiar foe.
The Silkmen make the trip to Gloucestershire to face Forest Green Rovers, who were promoted from the National League last season, after their Play-Off victory over Tranmere Rovers.
The Nailsworth side have won their last three games in League Two and John Askey has been speaking to mtfc.co.uk about Saturday’s opponents.
“They’re a strong team and they’re just starting to adjust to league football.
“It’s a tough game but I’m sure it’s one that they’re not looking forward to either, so we’ll go there with confidence and hope we can cause an upset.
“I spoke to their manager Mark Cooper and neither of us wanted this outcome, so it wasn’t the draw we wanted but if we can get a win we’ll be happy.” He joked.
Despite Forest Green coming into the game with a good string of results, Askey says that his side are full of confidence ahead of the clash.
“The players are still playing with confidence. I was pleased with how we played on against Eastliegh, I thought we started slowly due to the travelling we’ve done but once we got over the thirty-minute mark there was only one team in it.
“Apart from a mistake, we played really well, and we had enough chances to win two games, but we have to put our chances away, especially with the chances we had in the game. If you watch the game again we should’ve won the game so hopefully we can put that right at Forest Green.
