Macclesfield return to action on Saturday as they prepare to take on Forest Green Rovers in the first-round proper of the FA Cup.
The Silkmen cruised past Stourbridge in the last qualifying round, romping to a 5-0 victory with goals coming from, Danny Whitehead, Tyrone Marsh, Elliot Durrell, Koby Arthur and Scott Burgess.
John Askey will be hoping his side can repeat the heroics of last year’s first round as Macc recorded a memorable win over League One side Walsall at the Bescott Stadium.
Now once again being drawn to away to Football League opposition can lightning strike twice?
John Askey took some time out to speak to mtfc.co.uk ahead of this clash, and told us how the FA Cup has given his side a feel-good factor.
“It’s always nice to play in the FA Cup and there’s always that feel good factor about it.
“It’ll be a tricky tie but one where well go there full of confidence.
“Over the years the cup has kept the club going and its created that feel god factor around the place, from the player’s point of view it’s always special to play in the FA Cup and it’s special for the supporters as well.”
“We’ve started the season well and we want to keep that going, but with the FA Cup games you can let yourselves go a bit and play with a bit more freedom.
“Obviously the result is really important, but I think you always have that bit of freedom when you play in the FA Cup.”
