Macclesfield Town are delighted to announce that boss John Askey has been named the ‘Vanarama National League Manager of the Month’ for December.
Askey guided the Silkmen to an unbeaten month in the National League as Macclesfield climbed to the top of the table in the final month of 2017.
The Silkmen started the month with an impressive 2-1 victory at Hartlepool before moving into top spot with an emphatic 4-1 win at home to Wrexham in-front of the BT Sport cameras.
Macclesfield then secured a 1-1 draw in a tough away day at Bromley before ending 2017 with home victories over Halifax and fellow promotion chasers Sutton United.
The victory over Sutton, in which Macclesfield played the majority of the second-half with 10 men, moved Askey’s men six points clear at the top of the table and completed a superb month or the Silkmen.
As a result, Askey has now been honoured, but the Silkmen boss was quick to praise his side.
John said: “It is really pleasing but I don’t think the award should be called manager of the month, it should be team of the month. The players were fantastic in December and it is them who have got the award for me.
“To get any award is pleasing but I don’t think I’ll enjoy it unless we have won the league at the end of season.
“December went really well and hopefully we can keep it going now.”
Everybody at Macclesfield Town Football Club would like to congratulate John on his award.
