Shwan Jalal says it is important that the Macclesfield Town squad must maintain their standards for the rest of the season if they are to mount a push for the title.

Jalal, who has missed the last three games through suspension, was speaking ahead of a rare free weekend for the club and insists the players are prepared for the challenge that faces them.

A trip to AFC Fylde is up next and even a defeat will keep Macclesfield top of the league. However, with the gap sitting at just four points, the team must continue their good run of form to keep themselves ahead of the chasing pack.

Jalal admits the experience in the dressing room could prove beneficial as the season progresses.

“The manager keeps reminding us how important it is to keep our standards up,” he said.

“We’ve got a good mix in the squad. Some of our guys have been here and seen it before and for some it’s a new situation.

“It’s down to us with the experience to guide the younger players through and the manager to keep doing what he’s doing and keep reminding us to keep doing what we’re doing.

“We’ve got the quality – but It’s important not to get carried away and making sure we keep our feet firmly on the ground.”
