As defender Jared Hodgkiss nears his return from an injury which has kept him out of contention for selection for the opening National League games, he discussed the squad depth and quality the Silkmen have following a successful summer transfer window.
He said: “We have good quality throughout the whole squad. The competition for places is great, as you have to be training and playing well every day to get and keep the jersey.
"The competitiveness in the squad is evident and gives the team a boost with quality coming off the bench in the crucial moments of games. Those on the bench are looking to earn a starting berth, meaning training is at a high intensity as everyone pushes themselves to the next level.
“Training and playing at your maximum can only improve you, which obviously is good for the club in achieving what we have set out to.”
The loss to Maidstone United will provide some players that were not involved a chance to impress manager John Askey in training this week ahead of Saturday’s trip to Torquay United.
Hodgkiss said: “With us losing our last game, the manager may have a few tough decisions to make. Especially with how well the lads have trained so far this week.”
