Saturday’s hard fought 0-0 draw with the resurgent Solihull Moors provided a tough test for the Silkmen, but the Macclesfield Town defence came through it with flying colours once again as they notched up another clean sheet.
Experienced defender George Pilkington was at the heart of that defence, and he knows all about what it takes to mount a title challenge in such a competitive and unpredictable league. SilkmenTV caught up with him after the game to discuss how important the point could be, and the upcoming trip to Halifax Town in the FA Trophy.
“We had a couple of chances cleared off the line, but the point was a fair result and a good one really, it keeps the run going, clean sheet and move onto the next game. There are going to be a lot of twists and turns as the season goes on and we have just got to stay positive.
“With the standards we have set you want to be winning all of your games but realistically it is going to get tougher from this point onwards, everyone will be fighting for points and there are no easy games in this division.
“It is always nice to get the clean sheet but the most important thing is getting the points on the board. There is no point in looking over your shoulder you just have to concentrate on the next game.
“We picked up a few injuries so I am sure the manager will regroup and see where we are at. They (Halifax) will be looking to right a wrong when we beat them on New Year’s Day, there are no easy games so it will be another tough test up there and we will make sure we are prepared for it.”
