Gateshead V Macclesfield - Match Preview

Macclesfield Town
Posted:Fri 18 Aug 2017

Macclesfield Town hit the road again tomorrow as they travel to Gateshead. Let's take a look at the game in a bit more detail.

Team News:

Macclesfield could still be without Elliot Durrell and George Pilkington after John Askey said the pair’s injuries are taking slightly longer to disappear than expected. Billy O’Brien is set to keep his place in goal with Shwan Jalal a doubt after injury in the warm up at Sutton on Tuesday night.

Adam Yeates and Danny Whitaker were rested on Tuesday and are available to be picked on Saturday, Jared Hodgkiss and Josh Thompson remain out.

Gateshead are without defender Scott Barrow as he is out with a knee injury and missed their Tuesday game against Wrexham. Callum Williams was substituted off in that game and is a doubt for Saturday’s clash.

Luke Hannant hasn’t featured for Gateshead this season but could return to the squad after recovering from a back injury, manager Neil Aspin has said that “he’s in contention for Saturday.”

Neill Byrne should feature against his former club.

Last Time Out:

Last time out, the Silkmen and Gateshead played out a 1-1 draw in front of the crowd at Moss Rose. Macclesfield had just won the FA Trophy semi-final first leg against Tranmere 1-0 and after this game attention would turn to the second leg.

It was both goalkeepers who stole the show in the first half with both making good saves to keep the score at 0-0 going into the break. The goals came late on in the game, Manny Smith opened the scoring for the away side but a header from John McCombe in the 82nd minute won a point for the Silkmen.

One to Watch – Jordan Burrow

The England C striker has an eye for goal and has played all four of Gateshead’s games so far, this season. He’s been an ever-present in the team since joining from Halifax in 2016.

After leaving Chesterfield where he came through the youth ranks, he went on to play for Morecambe and Stevenage in League One and League Two respectively before joining Lincoln in the National League. After a spell with Halifax the striker joined Gateshead and the club will be looking to him to fire them into the play-off places.
