March starts with yet another top of the table clash for the Silkmen. This time it’s a tough trip to face Boreham Wood in front of the BT Sport cameras.

Both sides have impressed the pundits this season with Macclesfield defying the odds to top the Vanarama National League and Boreham Wood completing one of the biggest upsets of the round when they knocked Blackpool out of the Emirates FA Cup.

So, in preparation for the game, we look down memory lane and re-visit the five occasions we’ve met Boreham Wood in our history.

Macclesfield 0 Boreham Wood 0 – Saturday 18th November 2017

The latest fixture between the two sides ended goalless and the Silkmen were wondering how they didn’t take all three points from Luke Garrard’s side that afternoon.

The visiting defence was on top form, stopping chances from an array of areas from the likes of Durrell, Whitehead and Whitaker. Ryan Lloyd hit the crossbar in the second half for Macc but the scoreline stayed the same throughout the 90.

Boreham Wood 2 Macclesfield 4 – Saturday 1st April 2017

The most exciting game between the two sides ended with John Askey’s men taking all three points back to Cheshire and it was an especially memorable game for a certain Mitch Hancox.

The Silkmen started brightly and we had the lead after only six minutes when Anthony Dudley converted Hancox’s cross from close range.

The Wood equalised on fourteen minutes through defender David Stephens, but Macclesfield then turned on the style for the rest of the first half.

Hancox grabbed his first goal of the afternoon on 27 minutes after Kingsley James’ shot rebounded to him at close range. Then he completed a sensational first half hat-trick in the 45th minute.

Firstly, he tucked the ball into the net after a good cross from Rhys Browne and then he reacted quickest from the resulting kick-off to regain possession of the ball and eventually complete his hat-trick after good link up play with Dudley.

Bruno Andrade did get a late consolation for the Wood, but it was too little too late for the hosts as Macc deservedly ran out 4-2 winners.

Macclesfield 0 Boreham Wood 2 – Saturday 8th October 2016

Saturday’s opponents have beaten Macc just once, and that was in last season’s encounter at Moss Rose.

David Fitzpatrick was adjudged to have fouled Bruno Andrade inside the box and Kenny Davies converted the resulting penalty. The second goal came when Dan Woodards headed in from a corner keeping the visitors unbeaten run away from home intact.

Boreham Wood 0 Macclesfield 0 – Saturday 19th March 2016

Both sides couldn’t find a way past each other towards the end of the 2015/16 season.

Macclesfield had the better chances in the game Chris Holroyd and Kristian Dennis both came close to breaking the deadlock.

Whereas Harry White had the Wood’s best effort, firing over the crossbar.

Macclesfield 0 Boreham Wood 0 – Saturday 3rd October 2015

The first clash between the two teams was another 0-0 score line but again it was Macclesfield who had the better chances of the two teams.

Danny Whitehead came close in this encounter when his shot struck the post whereas Chris Holroyd saw his effort cleared off the line by defender Scott Doe. But it wasn’t finished there, Danny Whitaker also came close in the game with his headed effort but both teams cancelled each other out at the Moss Rose.
