In the wake of his sides 1-0 victory over Ebbsfleet United on Saturday, Macclesfield Town defender David Fitzpatrick admitted the squad are ‘thriving’ after their recent run of form.
The victory for the league leaders at Moss Rose extended their recent winning run to four games – winning seven of their last nine in the process.
Mitch Hancox got the only goal of the game in the 42nd minute. After Scott Wilson missed the initial opportunity in the middle of the pitch, the former Birmingham City man was on hand to fire into the roof of the net from close range. His second goal of the 2016-17 season.
The Silkmen will now head into their FA cup tie with Stourbridge this weekend full of confidence and Fitzpatrick says the players cannot wait for the next game.
“There’s confidence throughout the squad,” he said. “It’s strange looking at the league table and seeing us top, but, we’re thriving on it and looking forward to the next game.
“It’s great (winning four in a row). It’s something we’ve talked about, but we’ve not been able to achieve it. To get the four wins is great for us and it keeps us top of the table.
“It was always going to be a tough game against Ebbsfleet, they’ve obviously got a bit of money, so, to be the better side on the day and come away with all three points is great.
“We’ve got a good number of clean sheets and it looks fairly solid up to now. It’s all about building confidence and moving onto the week ahead.”
