After the win against Barrow on Saturday, Elliott Durrell spoke to SilkmenTV about the importance of clean sheets, and a solid defence in order for Macclesfield’s attacking players to thrive.
He said: “We base our performances around clean sheets and at times they (the Silkmen defenders) look easy.
“We joke about it but Pilks barely breaks a sweat, and it’s a credit to them as a back four, and Jalal behind them as a back five. We really do base our performances on clean sheets and if we keep them we know the players we have attacking have the ability to score goals.”
A defence helps the likes of Durrell succeed, but the support of the fans is important too. Saturday’s travelling faithful against Barrow were particularly vocal, enjoying Durrell’s second half strike.
“The fans are great at home, but credit to the fans that have travelled today, it’s not a five-minute journey, they spend their hard-earnt money and we put on performances like that for them.
“It wouldn’t be a club if it wasn’t for the fans and we go out week in week out to perform for them, and they can see what we are trying to create here at the end of the game it is vital we go over to acknowledge the fans because they are just as important to us as we are to them, so we have to make sure that we feel part of what we want to do here.”
