With Macclesfield sitting at the top of the Vanarama National League, there are no shortage of teams wanting to knock the Silkmen off the top.

On Saturday, second placed Sutton United will travel to Moss Rose and aim to do exactly that and claim top spot for themselves.

Macc’s 2-1 Boxing Day victory over FC Halifax Town saw Danny Whitehead notch another goal for the club in his second spell and the midfielder took some time out to speak to www.mtfc.co.uk on the upcoming tie.

“We are expecting a tough game against Sutton, they are near the top of the table for a reason, but we are on a good run at the moment, so we have to have great confidence going into the game.

“There are some really big teams up at the top like Wrexham and Dagenham and Redbridge, but anything can happen in this league and with it being so tight at the top it is still anyone’s title for the taking.”

Whitehead also praised the support of the Silkmen faithful and said that himself and the players want to keep them coming down to the Moss Rose.

“The fans have been brilliant so far, this season and if we can encourage them to keep getting behind us for the remainder of the season they could be vital in helping us achieve promotion.”
